FAQ

Questions, answered.

The things people ask us most about booking, buildings and moving day. If your question is not here, call us. We are happy to help.

Booking and pricing

How do I get a price for my move?

Call us or send a quote request with your addresses, date and the size of your home. We will ask a few questions about access, like stairs, elevators and parking, and then send you a written estimate.

What affects the cost of a move?

The size of the home, the number of movers needed, access at both ends (stairs, elevators, long walks from the truck), the drive between addresses, and any packing or extra services. Building rules that limit hours can also affect crew size.

How far in advance should I book?

Two to three weeks is comfortable for most local moves. For summer, the end of the month and the start and end of the winter season, book three to four weeks ahead. Short-notice moves are often possible midweek, so call and ask.

Will I get a written estimate?

Yes. Every move gets a written estimate before moving day, so you know what to expect.

Moving day

What should I do before the movers arrive?

Finish packing anything you are packing yourself, empty and defrost the refrigerator if it is moving, set aside valuables, medication and documents to carry yourself, and reserve the elevator or loading dock if your building requires it.

Do you take furniture apart and put it back together?

Yes. Beds, tables, desks and other pieces that need to come apart are taken apart, labeled and reassembled at the new home.

How do you protect my furniture and home?

Furniture is wrapped in moving blankets and, where needed, shrink-wrap. We lay floor runners and protect door frames and corners. In condo buildings we also pad the elevator.

What if it rains?

Rain is part of moving in South Florida. We keep plastic and shrink-wrap on the truck, protect mattresses and upholstery, and pause loading during a downpour if needed.

Is there anything you will not move?

We do not move hazardous materials such as gasoline, propane, paint, chemicals or ammunition. We also recommend you carry cash, jewelry, important documents and medication yourself.

Condos and buildings

What is a certificate of insurance (COI)?

A one-page document from our insurer showing that we carry liability coverage. Condo associations and commercial buildings require it before a mover can work on the property. We issue it once we have your building’s requirements.

Who books the elevator?

You do, through your building management, since reservations are usually made by the resident. Tell us the time window you get and we will schedule the crew to arrive at the start.

My building only allows moves on weekdays. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Weekday-only rules are common in Sunny Isles Beach, Aventura and Miami Beach, and we schedule around them all the time.

Company

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Excellent Movers LLC is a registered Florida mover (Fla. Mover Reg. No. IM4003) with USDOT number 4365550, and we carry insurance. We can send a certificate of insurance to your building or HOA on request.

Which areas do you serve?

Our regular area runs from Miami and Miami Beach north through Sunny Isles Beach and Aventura, and up the Broward coast to Pompano Beach, including inland cities like Pembroke Pines, Plantation and Weston. We also do long-distance moves within Florida.

Do you move out of state?

Our long-distance service covers moves within Florida. If you are moving to another state, call us and we will talk through your options honestly.

Do you offer storage?

Yes. When your move-out and move-in dates do not line up, we can pick up, store and deliver your things.
