Packing and unpacking

Packing is the part of moving that takes longest and causes most of the damage when it is done in a hurry. Our crews can pack the whole home, or just the rooms you would rather not deal with.

Full or partial packing

Full packing means we pack everything: kitchen, closets, books, décor and the garage. Partial packing is usually the kitchen and fragile items, with you handling clothes and personal things. Either way, the packing is normally done the day before the move so loading day runs on schedule.

Every box is labeled with its room and a short description of what is inside. Boxes with fragile contents are marked so the crew loads them last and unloads them first.

Fragile and awkward items

Dishes are packed on edge with paper between each one, glasses go into cell-divided boxes, and mirrors and framed art are wrapped and boxed or crated depending on size. Large TVs go into a TV box or are blanket-wrapped and moved upright.

If you have pieces that need special handling, like stone tabletops, chandeliers or valuable art, point them out during the estimate so we bring the right materials.

Unpacking

We can also unpack at the new home: kitchen boxes emptied into cabinets, beds made up, and the empty boxes and paper taken away. It is the fastest way to feel settled after a move.

Questions

Packing & Unpacking: common questions

Do you supply the boxes?

Yes. When we pack, we bring all the materials. If you are packing yourself, we can drop off boxes and supplies ahead of time.

How long does packing take?

A typical two-bedroom apartment takes a crew most of a day to pack fully. Kitchen-only packing is usually a few hours. We will include packing time in your estimate.
